Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Our lives are full of stress,
but distress is optional

WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?

Mindfulness is a training of attention. Mindfulness  practice increases calm and clarity, which is helpful in dealing with the many challenges of everyday life.
As you practice mindfulness, you learn to gather up your inner resources in order to manage pain, illness and stress. This special form of attentiveness enables you to find new insights into life situations and, in turn, develop richer and more skillful responses to these events.

Mindfulness encourages deep relaxation, heightened awareness, and clarity of thought. You are doing something for yourself that no one else can do for you.

MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Relaxation (MBSR) is designed to teach you how to work with stress and pain. This program can provide you with the tools to transform your relationship to pain while enhancing pleasure.

MBSR is modeled on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D (featured on the Bill Moyers PBS special, “Healing and the Mind”). The University of Massachusetts Medical Center began MBSR in 1979 and has become the provider of a stress reduction program that is respected world-wide.
“Life isn't about waiting
for the storm to pass...
It's about learning
to dance in the rain.”

– Vivian Greene

"I've been practicing meditation on my own for quite sometime now. I enrolled in the MAPs course at UCLA with Gloria because I attended a daylong workshop with her that provided new ways to practice mindfulness, starting with what I'm noticing energetically in my body. I later enrolled in a 6 week introduction to mindfulness series with Gloria where I found the discipline and community of like-minded practitioners I'd been longing for. Two specific aspects of mindfulness that Gloria helped strengthen for me are to begin asking different questions that center on noticing and allowing, and the other is learning easy movements to shift the energy in my body as well as create real-time shifts in mood and attitude. Gloria generously offers little gems and resources from her own practice that have helped me relate with more wisdom and compassion to what is happening in my life and relate with more presence and patience to the world around me. Gloria has the experience and depth of a teacher's teacher as well as the everyday language and examples to guide someone newer to the practices of mindful living. Gloria will stretch you wherever you are in unexpected ways that unlock your body, mind, and spirit."

"Gloria is a genuinely nice and thoughtful meditation teacher. Her instruction is, at the same time, both deep and down to earth. She radiates friendliness and true warmth. It's easy to see that she speaks from her heart and experience. Plus, she always gets me to practice! She's immensely helpful to me in my meditation journey.”
